Learn More About Air Traffic Controllers

Vital Role in Ensuring Safe Aircraft Movement

Our Air Traffic Control (ATC) units are responsible for the safe and efficient movement of aircraft both in the air and on the ground. They manage aircraft separation, provide routing and landing guidance, and maintain continuous communication with pilots.

CADSUR

Suriname's Air Traffic Services (ATS) are managed by the Civil Aviation Department of Suriname (CADSUR), which oversees all operations within the Paramaribo Flight Information Region (FIR).

The Air TRaffic Controllers(ATC)

Our ATC personnel monitors aircraft positions and ensure seamless coordination between control units. Our ATS unit is typically divided into three main areas:

Tower Control – managing aircraft in the airport vicinity,

Approach Control – guiding aircraft during arrivals and departures in the terminal area,

En-route Control – overseeing aircraft in the cruise phase across controlled airspace.

Our Air traffic controllers play a critical role in preventing collisions, reducing delays, and maintaining overall flight safety within the airspace under their jurisdiction.

There are three primary ATC units

Paramaribo ACC (Area Control Center)

Controls all airspace within the Paramaribo FIR excluding control zones and the TMA (Terminal Control Area).
Provides services in Class A, B, and G airspace including Area Control, Flight Information, and Alerting Services.

SMJP / PENGEL TWR (Aerodrome and Approach Control Tower)

Provides aerodrome and approach control services within a 10 NM radius (CTR) from the SMJP ARP from ground up to 1500 ft, and within a 40 NM radius (TMA) from 1500 ft up to FL125 (12,500 ft).

SMZO / Zorg en Hoop TWR

Provides aerodrome control service to VFR flights in a 5 NM radius from SMZO ARP, from ground level up to 1500 ft.
